Abstract

Matching technique is a fundamental geometric operation used in the trimmed surface models and boolean operations of them in the solid and geometric modeling systems. Because the matching operation takes a lot of computational cost to represent the smoothness correctly by the constraints for differential coefficient of high degree and concurrently move to selected several points of surfaces, it is very difficult to find a general solution along the complex of functions. In this paper are define a RMC(Rotation-Minimizing Curve) and propose new Free-form Deformation Matching method. RMC is based on the geometric techniques, such as the tangent vector, the curvature derivative of the matching curve and surface. The performance of proposed method does not depend on the geometric complexity of the input surface, but mostly depend on the complexity of the matching curve itself. Also, since intrinsic quantities corresponding the curve can be reused in matching basis function, it can be efficiently applied to the optimization problems.
