Abstract

IMT-2000(International Mobile Telecommunications-2000) is the 3rd generation mobile system which aims to provide various multimedia mobile communication services such as voice, images and data. It is grafted new various applications and network technologies on the fundamental technologies in traditional digital mobile communication system. The detailed system design and implementation specifications about the radio traffic and signaling interface functions, the mobile call control function and the maintenance & management function of the BSC(Base Station Controller) in the IMT- 2000(Synchronous System) are suggested in this paper. The architectures and functions of AIS(ATM Interconnection Subsystem), BIS(BTS Interface Subsystem), SDS(Selector Distribution Subsystem), CSS(Control & Signal Subsystem) and BEMS(Base station Element Management Subsystem) subsystems in the BSC are mainly designed and implemented in this paper. In addition to these, the call processing functions and procedure(including handoff function) among MS(Mobile Station), BTS(Base Station Transceiver Subsystem), BSC and MSC(Mobile Switching Center) are also included in this paper.
